Mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry in Poland

The Mineralogical Society of Poland (MSP) was established in April 17, 1969. According to the statutee “MSP supports the development of mineralogical sciences and propagates them in the Polish society”. The headquarter of the Society is located at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, whereas regional branches of the MSP are located in Warsaw, Wrocław, Sosnowiec and Kielce. The former presidents of the MSP were: Andrzej Bolewski (1969 - 1980), Witold Żabiński (1980 - 1994), Marian Banaś (1994 - 1998), Janusz Janeczek (1998 - 2002), Piotr Wyszomirski (2002 - 2004), Marek Michalik (2004-2008), Ryszard Kryza (2008-2012), Leszek Marynowski (2013-2016), Tomasz Bajda (2017-2020). IN 2020 dr hab. Jakub Kierczak, prof. UWr was elected as a new president of the Mineralogical Society of Poland.
Mineralogical Society of Poland has been a member of the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) since 1973 and in 1999 the Society joined the European Mineralogical Union (EMU). The representatives of the MSP are members of several commissions of IMA.
The Mineralogical Society of Poland publishes in English two journals: “Mineralogia Polonica” (since 2008 “Mineralogia”) and “Mineralogical Society of Poland – Special Papers” (since 2008 Mineralogia – Special Papers). The “Mineralogia” publishes reviewed papers on the latest achievements in mineralogy, petrology and geochemistry in Poland and elsewhere. The “Mineralogia – Special Papers” publishes reviewed abstracts, texts of posters and oral presentations presented during conferences organized by the MSP.
The Mineralogical Society of Poland included over 200 members in 2020. In the course of the Society's activity, the MSP appointed 32 Honorary Members from domestic and foreign mineralogists.
