doctoral POSITION at AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Poland
Dear all,
We are looking for a PhD candidate at AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Poland. The project will be performed in very close collaboration with Polish Academy of Sciences, Uppsala University (Sweden), Comenius University (Slovakia) and University of Jena (Germany).
The Polish National Science Centre umbrella project is focused on the closure of the Alpine Tethys Ocean recorded in the Pieniny Klippen Belt of the Western Carpathians. The main objective of this project is to study the structure, age and tectonothermal development of the Western Carpathian segment of the Alpine Tethys suture to create a comprehensive model of its evolution.
The newly recruited PhD student will work under the supervision of Jaroslaw Majka and Karolina Kośmińska and become a member of the Orogen Dynamics Team (http://odt.agh.edu.pl/). The thesis will be composed of three-four scientific articles. The potential student will become a well-trained geologist with unique, multidisciplinary experience in tectonics, geochronology and petrology. The host institution is equipped with modern SEM (EDS+EBSD), EMP, Raman, XRF and several other instruments. Isotopic work will be done in external laboratories located in Sweden and the USA. Fieldwork will be performed in the Carpathians of Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. Potential candidates trained in structural geology, metamorphic petrology and/or multimethod geochronology are very welcome to apply. They have to hold a relevant Master’s degree by September 2022. The planned salary is c. 5000PLN/month for four years plus additional stipends depending on student’s performance. The recruitment procedure is two-fold.
